Best Place to Stay

Hamilton: Hamilton Princess & Beach Club

The Princess Bermuda Hotel in Hamilton has quickly become one of my favorite hotels I have ever stayed at.  It has so many perks of staying there! First of all, the grounds are so beautiful and the hotel is even a gorgeous pastel pink. There are many delicious restaurants on site to try. They even have their own private beach club! They also have over 400 art pieces in their collection. One of the very best parts about staying her is the staff. They made me feel right at home and I made friends with so many of them right away! This hotel definitely was one of my favorite parts of Bermuda.

DAY 1 – Arrive and Settle in – Bermuda Island

Breakfast in the Fairmont Gold Lounge

I highly recommend booking a Fairmont Gold Harbor View room. I was absolutely obsessed with the view from my room and walking out onto the balcony was the first thing that I did every morning. Another perk is getting access to the Gold Lounge which serves a nice array of delicacies, fruits and juices for breakfast, has an afternoon tea and light snacks for dinner. I enjoyed the breakfast several times and got to experience the afternoon tea once which served cute little pastries and sandwiches.

Explore Hotel and Relax

This hotel has coined the phrase “The OG Millenial Pink Hotel” so I assure you there are so many cute corners to discover. Beyond the absolute cuteness of the hotel, there are two epic swimming pools to enjoy- one is adults only. The views out to the harbor are beautiful and hearing the waves crashing is one of the most peaceful sounds to hear. I loved being near the harbor too and seeing all of the different boats. There are lawn chairs to hang out in all over the hotel grounds too if you want to just kick back and relax.

3 PM- Bermuda National Gallery

After spending early afternoon around the hotel, it was time to discover some art. We headed to the Bermuda National Gallery, just a short ten minute walk from the hotel in Hamilton. We discovered 3 different exhibitions while we were there. One was by the very talented local, Jacqueline Alma. Her art was so dynamic and intricate and unlike anything I’ve seen. One of my favorite exhibitions was the What’s Poppin?! Pop Art Exhibition.

4 PM- Explore Hamilton

I decided to explore Hamilton a little bit before heading back to the hotel. I found Hamilton to be quite charming even though the streets were quite a lot busier than anywhere else on the island. It was fun to just discover the town on foot. I really enjoyed Front Street and all of the colorful and quaint buildings. I also enjoyed walking along the harbor and enjoying the absolutely perfect Bermuda weather. Also, another thing I really enjoyed was meeting locals! The locals I met in Bermuda were some of the friendliest I’ve ever met!

5:30 PM- Marina Nights

Marina Nights is THE place to be on Friday nights and is known as the best happy hour on the whole island! I actually had several locals recommend it to me! We were able to attend the first Marina Nights of the season and each month is a different theme. The one we attended was Cinco de Mayo themed. A lot of people were sporting sombreros and they were selling street tacos, it was really fun. A local band was playing in the background and they were actually really good! It honestly felt like the whole island was there and the setting was just unbelievable. This is definitely not to be missed and make sure to try a Swizzle- Bermuda’s national drink.

7:30- Dinner at 1609

1609 is one of the premiere restaurants in Bermuda. The location happened to be just behind Marina Nights so it was a perfect choice. The setting is incredible based right on the bay with floor to ceiling windows that actually open up so that you feel like you are right outside. We happened to be here during sunset and I highly recommend doing the same. It was an amazing place to witness the sunset. The food at 1609 was very good too. I recommend trying the nacho’s, the shrimp (the sauce on it is so good!) and the fish tacos. Also for desert, you must try the churros. They were some of the best I’ve ever had!

Day 2 Exploring the Island- Bermuda Island

9 Am- Art Tour around the Hamilton Princess

One of my favorite parts of the Hamilton Princess Hotel was the massive array of art. There are actually over 400 pieces in the collection and it’s incredible. There is literally art on every floor and in every nook and cranny so you could honestly just spend an afternoon searching for masterpieces all over the hotel. There are even pieces from Banksy and Warhol. It is definitely worth going on a tour to see some of the notable pieces and to find art you might not have otherwise. It’s said that the owners of the Hamilton Princess just said they were looking for a place to house all of their art!

10:00 AM Rent Twizys

Twizy Electric cars are the absolute best way to explore the island. You can actually rent the cars right from the Hamilton Princess property so it is very convenient. The cars are quite small and only fit two people- one in front (the driver) and then the passenger in back. You get to do a test ride around the parking lot at the property to make sure you feel comfortable and you get a brief tutorial before heading out. It’s also super convenient because you can download a Twizy app and it will show you the charging stations all around the island. It also gives an extensive list of things to do around the island and once you pick what you want to do, you just click on it and the app will lead you the way!

10:30 AM- Blue Hole

Riding around  in the Twizy cars was an absolute blast and the drive was so scenic! My breath was taken away so many times. The water color was an insanely unbelievable turquoise blue. There are honestly so many places you can stop along the way! We made our first stop at a place called Blue Hole. The contrast of the water and the trees was spectacular. Also, it is actually a very popular swimming hole so make sure to bring your swimsuit and a towel. The beach across the street was also quite scenic and worth making a stop at.

12:00 Explore St. George’s

We next stopped at St. George’s island to charge the cars and eat lunch. We ate lunch at a local seafood spot called Wahoo’s which was quite tasty. We then explored St. George’s for a little while and I absolutely loved it. It was such a cute and quaint town and really reminded me so much of Wales. I loved the cobblestone alleyways and all of the beautiful pastel buildings everywhere.

4:00 Horseshoe Bay

After exploring St. George’s, we decided it was time to go to the beach so we headed to Horseshoe Bay. I had this beach recommended to me countless times. Upon arriving, it was quite beautiful, but there were so many people! One of the reasons there are more people here than other beaches is because it has facilities i.e restrooms, food stalls, etc. Luckily, Horseshoe Bay is quite a large beach so I decided to walk far away from everyone and explore this area with limestone rock formations that Bermuda is so famous for.  I was so amazed by this area! It completely took my breath away and there was hardly any one around! So I highly recommend you to do the same if you visit Horseshoe Bay!

If you are looking for something with less people, I recommend Church Bay and Jobson Cove! I never had the chance to visit either, but they both look quite beautiful!

7 PM- Dinner at Marcus’

Marcus’ is another restaurant back on property of the Hamilton Princess. It is the only celebrity chef restaurant in Bermuda- owned by Marcus Samuelsson. It is a mix of soul food and local food including the catch of the day each day. If you eat at only restaurant while in Bermuda, I recommend it be this one. It had some of the best food I’ve ever had in my life, I’m not exaggerating. I only had the chance to eat there once, but I definitely wish I would have eaten there at least one more time.  You definitely have to try the cornbread appetizers. It was seriously the best cornbread I’ve had in my life and it came with this delightful honey butter. Then I had the chicken and waffles appetizer (which could have been the main meal, mind you). And I could just cry thinking about this meal. It was insanely good! The fried chicken on top was so tender and juicy and the waffle mix was to die for. Plus there was a tropical twist with watermelon salsa on the side and some sort of tangy honey sauce on top. You definitely have to give Marcus’ a try!

DAY 3 – Bermuda Island Itinerary

9:00 AM Painting Class

After all of the art we had experienced on the island, I was very excited for our painting class with Mix Bermuda. Everything was provided for us which was super handy and our teacher was very friendly and fun, walking around the room constantly to see if anyone needed help. I loved seeing everyone in the group’s paintings because they were all so different. It was fun to see how everyone put their own twist on it. This was definitely one of my favorite activities we did while in Bermuda. It was so fun!

11:00 AM Beach Club

After we finished our paintings, we headed on the hotel’s jitney to their private beach club! There are sun loungers, towels, bathrooms and changing rooms on site so you don’t have to worry about a thing. There are also cute pastel chairs all over the place you can relax in AND hammocks over the water! If you want to do something a bit more adventurous, they have stand up paddle boards and kayaks too. There are also two other beaches besides the main beach. They are much more low key with out any facilities, but they are very beautiful too. There was also a little walk you can go on to get amazing views of the ocean and the limestone rock formations. There are cute chairs all along the way too so you can just sit down and relax for awhile. The Beach Club also has its own cafe and they will bring your food right to your beach lounger. The food was actually quite good too! Some of my favorite items were the BBQ Chicken and pineapple flat bread, the black bean dip and the cotton candy ice-cream with marshmallows. You could easily spend all day at the Beach Club and have the best time!

6 PM Sunset Cruise

After we all took showers and got cleaned up after the Beach Club, we headed down to the marina to get on a sunset cruise. We were met with a beautiful white yacht named The Lady Whytbank. We sailed around the Bermuda Great Sound and the views were absolutely stunning. It was so fun to see Hamilton from the water and get a completely different perspective. We saw some of the most beautiful pastel-colored homes and each took turns picking out which would be our dream home. Our Captain was also very informative and actually taught us a lot about Bermuda! Any questions we were intrigued about through out the week, he seemed to be able to answer. This was such a nice and relaxing way to wind down after being at the beach all day.

7 PM Sunset at the Infinity Pool

We got off of the cruise right during sunset and I headed over to the Infinity Pool because I was hoping for quite the show and I was right. The sunset was absolutely breath taking! The pool water was actually pretty warm too so if you have a little bit of time, I definitely recommend getting in to watch the sunset.

8:00 PM Dinner at Harbor Front Restaurant

We had heard great things about the Harbor Front Restaurant in Hamilton so we decided to give it a try. It is about a ten minute taxi ride away. The setting of the restaurant is quite beautiful right on Bermuda Harbor. The menu has quite a varied selection including Italian pastas, fresh seafood, steaks and sushi. The owner of the restaurant is a charismatic Italian man with a booming voice and he walks around from table to table charming guests with his stories. He definitely was quite the character and really made us laugh. He told us he originally just had Italian dishes and seafood, but he visited Japan once and loved sushi so much- he decided to add it to the menu!

The food was delicious, but the portions were so huge! We didn’t realize and most of us ordered the Lobster Linguine. I think we all could have shared! We were so surprised to see the dishes when they came out. The linguine was delicious however and we tried our best to eat as much as we could with out getting belly aches!

Also, our night at the Harbor Front Restaurant was quite eventful. The owner came over and told us that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones were there. (Apparently they live in Bermuda).  One of the girls in our group started having her fan girl moment and decided she needed to go to the restroom aka find Michael Douglas. Two of them went and after what seemed like forever, they finally came back and apparently they got to see him! The rest of us were a bit jealous and most of our conversations that evening ended up revolving around Michael Douglas. At the end of the evening, right before we were about to leave, he ended up walking right past our table! It was definitely a cool experience to see him in person and definitely a memorable evening at the Harbor Front Restaurant we won’t soon forget.
