The Best Place to Stay in Maui – Maui Family Resorts

I have absolutely loved my time on the Hawaiian islands Oahu and Kauai so when I saw a flight deal on Cyber Monday for Maui, I decided it was time to give a new Hawaiian island a try and I was pleasantly surprised and may have found the best place to stay in Maui!

Fairmont Kea Lani

I had the absolute best time when I stayed at the Fairmont in Bermuda so I knew I wanted to give Fairmont a try again when I was in Maui and I was definitely not disappointed!

Suites

The best place to stay in Maui is… the Fairmont Kea Lani Hotel every room is actually a suite which makes it perfect for families or friends traveling together! It’s still nice for couples as well- it’s just nice and spacious. There is a mini kitchen area and a living room- with a pull out bed. There is a working area with a desk and then the main bedroom.

The bathroom is also incredible with his and hers sinks and an incredible bathtub perfect for relaxing in after an adventurous day around the island!

My very favorite part, however, was the amazing views overlooking the ocean! Right when we checked into the hotel, it was sunset time and I just immediately ran out onto the balcony to witness the beauty. We were also there in the Winter- which happens to be Whale migrating season and we saw so many whales right from our balcony- it was truly magical!

Dining

Kea Lani Restaurant Breakfast Buffet:

I absolutely loved this restaurant! It was so delicious and there were seriously so many options! I also absolutely loved the design of the space. The wallpaper was so cute and it was an indoor/outdoor restaurant so depending on the weather you could eat outside with beautiful views of the ocean and the Fairmont grounds. Again, the buffet was massive with so many options for Western and Asian palettes alike.

There was also an adorable keiki (kid area) where they could build their own pancakes with little containers of sprinkles, gummy bears and the like. I absolutely loved the omelet station and got an omelet every day. Each day, they also had Hawaiian specials like Loco Moco which were fun to try and very tasty.

Some of my other favorites were the macadamia nut sticky bun I had- I couldn’t believe how good it was and the next day I had macadamia waffles with coconut syrup- it was heavenly. One of my other favorite parts was the fresh juice they brought out each morning and it was also a different flavor like pineapple passionfruit!

Eating breakfast

Ko

Ko is Fairmont Kea Lani’s award winning signature restaurant- offering plantation-inspired cuisine featuring Hawaiian, Chinese, Filipino, Portuguese, Korean and Japanese menu items. This meal was so delectable and a definite must when on Maui. I tried to be adventurous and tried a lot of new things which were really delicious. All of the food tasted very fresh and I loved the sauces and everything they were cooked in.

I absolutely loved their smoothies and they had the coolest bamboo straws!

Ko appetizers

For the appetizers, we enjoyed lumpia (a Filipino style eggroll), coconut shrimp and seared tuna that you actually cook yourself on a very hot rock! I also recommend the Rootbeer- it’s made right in Maui at a nearby brewery.

Ko dinner

For entrees, we got the red snapper special, the lobster tempura and the catch of the day cooked in lemongrass!

Activities

This is truly one of the the best Maui resorts for families! There are so many things to do at Fairmont Kea Lani, that you never have to leave the hotel if you don’t want to! There is a daily list of activities and lots of fun for kids if you are bringing any with you. Certain days there are different lessons like ukulele playing, hula dancing, lei making, etc.

Also included in your stay at the hotel, is a sunrise canoe experience which is so cool! You get to learn how to paddle and ride in a long canoe with two Hawaiian instructors that teach you about the history of Hawaii as the sun rises over the ocean- definitely a great start to the day! Another activity you can do is ride bikes! The hotel has the most adorable bikes with baskets that you can check out and ride all around Wailea!

One of my very favorite activities, however, was the cabana experience! You can rent a cabana for the day and have your own personal and private space to lounge around in paradise. There are 3 different pool areas- including an adult’s only pool. There is also a swim up bar and a waterslide- so lots of fun amenities for all ages, perfect for the family!

One of the best parts of the cabana experience is that you have someone waiting on you all day and making sure you are refreshed and happy through out the day. They bring you a cooler full of your favorite drinks. We got bottles of water, Dr. Pepper and various delicious Hawaiian juices. The cooler also had fresh Hawaiian pineapple- (the best!) and other snacks like macadamia nuts and dried mango’s! It was awesome!

Beach Time

Another amazing part of the Fairmont Kea Lani was that they had their own beach and it was really beautiful! It was so nice to be able to go from the pool to the beach and vice versa- again they have really made it so you don’t even have to leave the property! When you head down to the beach, there will be attendants there that can get out beach chairs and an umbrella for you which is so nice and you can check out snorkels for an hour!

Property

The property itself was absolutely beautiful. The minute you walk in, you are whisked away into luxury and greeted with a fresh flower lei- which is the sweetest touch. The service was absolutely incredible and many times the staff even remembered who I was which made me feel so special.

I loved the design in so many of the different rooms and the outside grounds were just stunning. One of my very favorite areas was this very tranquil koi pond. (The do a feeding every day at 9 AM which is really fun for families). Truly one of the best Maui family resorts!
