Kanab Hot Air Balloon Festival – Balloons and Tunes
Have you ever wanted to visit Kanab, Utah? If yes, then this is the perfect time of the year to do so! If no, then you will surely want to for this event! Balloons and Tunes Roundup in Kanab, is a really unique event that you truly must experience. Every year, Kanab hosts around 40 hot air balloon pilots for the weekend. They will launch them every morning, weather permitting.
During the event you can also enjoy live music, a vendor street fair and even a lantern festival. If you happen to be nearby, driving through or just wanting to visit, you won’t want to miss Balloons and Tunes Roundup in Kanab! This year the event will take place Feb 16, 17 and 18.
Kanab Hot Air Balloon Festival
The hot air balloons will launch every morning at about 7:30 am. They will launch from the (former) Coral Cliffs Golf Course. If you are worried about the weather you can check the Balloons and Tunes Round up Facebook page for a daily weather report. If it is rainy or snowy the balloon launch may get delayed or canceled so make sure to check before you go. The nice thing is if it does get canceled there are 2 other days so don’t lose hope!
Best Places to View the Hot Air Balloons
The balloons can be seen from all over in Kanab and just being near the golf course when they launch, you will have a beautiful view with the red rock cliffs in the background. If you are a little more adventurous and don’t mind a small hike. You can get some amazing views from the cliffs. There are two different trails that can take you up to the Kanab K or to a higher viewing area that has an amazing view of the city and the balloons.
The 2 trails are the K-hill trail and Toms Canyon. Both of these will be an awesome way to experience the event! Do be careful, depending on the weather, the trails can be muddy or have snow on them. Make sure to bundle up because it can be very chilly in the morning with or without sunlight.
Balloons and Tunes Kanab
After you enjoyed the hot air balloons, you can enjoy some local and regional bands. Head down to the intersection of 100 E and HWY 89, if you are interested in a certain act, make sure to look up what time they are performing. On Friday the bands will be playing from 3pm-7pm and on Saturday they will be there from 11am-6:30pm. Sunday will only feature the final hot air balloon launch.
Some of the bands this year include: Juniper City, Runaway Fire, The Birdwatchers, Senxao, Rachel Rivers, Annabella Torres, Stone Company and the Wayne Hoskins Band.
Vendor Fair
Similar to a farmers market the vendor fair will feature many vendors selling food, art, handmade crafts and other unique items. It will be held on Friday (Feb 16) and Saturday (Feb 17) from 11am to 7pm. This is a great way to meet locals and find some goods to take home with you!
Lantern Festival Launch
Another great activity at Balloons and Tunes is the Lantern Festival! Behind Kanab Center, (20 N 100 E) on Friday (Feb 16) at 7pm. If you have never been to a lantern festival. They are a lot of fun. You and many others will light a lantern and launch them into the night sky. Then sit back and bask in the beautiful sight.
Bring a friend or family to help! You can purchase the lanterns during the vendor fair.
Hot Air Balloon Glow
On Saturday (Feb 17) from 7pm-8pm head on over to Center street and Hwy 89 for the Balloon Glow! The hot air balloon pilots will have their balloons on Center Street and light them up to shine against the night sky. you won’t want to miss this colorful and stunning event!
